Upon arriving in Minden, it promptly became known that we were not to have a sunny week. The Gull River offered us some of the coldest and wettest weather ever. Luckily with all the constant rain, the bugs were too scared to come out, so only in those short pauses between rainstorms were we ravage on by mosquitoes. With the help of a little white gas, we were also able to start a magical fire that lasted all week!
Throughout the week different events happened including the boater cross where you paddle a creek boat and start above the dam and go to below the falls, anything goes to the freestyle competition in the hole to the slalom races on the weekend. It was exciting to be able to participate in all the events and not just slalom.
By the end of the week we were all ready for a change of scene, the eddy at the bottom of the river was getting a little soapy as not everyone has biodegradable soap, but everyone needs to stay clean and much of the equipment was a little worse for wear. We headed off to the Ottawa River for our next set of events, the Junior Olympics freestyle event.
