We had our first half day off on Wednesday and the vote was unanimously in favour of the beach. Mike chose “Dee Why” and we soaked up some rays and played in the waves. Any passersby could tell that we were tourists. Our beacon white skin gave us all away.
We enjoyed, mmm, endured our hottest day yet, 37 C, that’s without humidity. Our kind coaches had us doing loops in the afternoon heat. Luckily the Australians have come up with some tricks to stay cool in the heat. The conveyor belt is equipped with sprinkles that spit water on you as you ride up to the top of the course. The sprint paddlers use ice vests to keep their core body temperature down. Unfortunately for us, we flip a lot more than they do and the ice would melt in the blink of an eye.
We’ve also experienced some thunder storms. It gets so hot here during the day that the climate detox’s at night with extreme rain. Last night, the pool very nearly over-flowed!
Tomorrow is our first full day off. Since it’s supposed to rain we’re going to do the tourist thing in Sydney, at least I hope so. Regardless, a day off is looking nice.
