Mexico has been tons of fun so far. As we are staying here just short of a month, we are exploring the area so we know the best places to train, eat, run, etc. A couple days ago Mike dropped a car of us off just below the waterfalls. We were supposed to do a workout but decided it could wait. We wanted to explore! Paddling upstream, we discovered a canyon. The vegetation coming over the edge of...
We have been at Aventurec for two days now. Upon arriving, I immediately found out that the bugs here mean business! Five minutes outside and my legs don’t even resemble legs anymore. They aren’t mosquitoes, but are more like noseeums. They are tiny and you don’t even know they’ve bitten you until 15 minutes later when you’re scratching your skin off.
I broke my paddle today. Luckily...
Thanks for the great pic Mike
To be an athlete you have to appreciate the art of travelling. To wake-up up before the sun, delegate with check-in clerks, and in those especially wonderful cases, to weave your conspicuously oddly-shaped white package between people and poles in the customs line. Once you’ve successfully navigated through the field of land-mines, you’re home-free. You have a...
So I realize that I haven’t posted anything for a long time. It has been a long couple months.
Team Alberta leaves for Mexico tomorrow morning for a month. I am not taking my computer with me for this camp, but if I am able to find an internet connection, I’ll put up a post and add some pics.
We were able to paddle a few days ago. The weather was just above zero. Not too much on the Bow, but enough that Mike had to jump to shore a few times when the ice shelf he was standing on collapsed and sunk into the river. It’s a good thing he has those water-proof boats, or Mike may have been a very unhappy, waterlogged coach.
I haven’t been in my boat for awhile, and as a result my edges...
Well, winter is finally here. The snow that has fallen is staying on the ground, with icy patches everywhere. The daily highs are now below zero and all the winter sport athletes are rejoicing as they jet off to the mountains. Our school population is slowly getting smaller and smaller.
As for me, I look forward to cross training this winter. Looks like I might not get to escape the death cold this...
My favorite “holiday” of all times is by far Halloween. You get to dress up as what ever you want, and go and have a good time. Pumpkin carving is an art that everyone takes part in. And who doesn’t enjoy scaring the crap out of little kids.
My mom and I carved out pumpkins and spent some time making my costume this year. It was so much fun! I love dressing up.
Happy Halloween!!
Alberta provincials were a huge success this year with a large turnout. Competitors from southern Alberta all the way to deep in the Alberta Rockies came to the Kananaskis River to compete in the events.
On Friday and Saturday clinics were offered for athletes to practice on the slalom course. On Sunday we ran the full slalom race Sunday morning, and in the afternoon, we offered a novice race....
Another year of school, another school camp to be experience. Every year at the National Sport School an overnight camp is organized to bring together the student and faculty in a fun environment.
This being my second year attending NSS, I had a bit more of an idea of what to expect at Camp Chief Hecter. For example, I knew to bring a hat and warm pants and to pack my downiest sleeping bag. What...
After a long summer, I am on my way home. My latest destination, Jonquiere (QC) for nationals was a learning experience for me. Jonquiere was the site the 1979 World Championships. The course itself is beautiful, with a hotel right on site. The whitewater was a little difficult (I had a pretty close call on a giant rock at the bottom) and took some time to get used to. It was pushy like Charlotte,...
