Marissa Tiel is a young writer and photographer with a sense of adventure. Originally from Canmore, Alberta, she attended a sports high school while competing on Canada’s junior national whitewater slalom team. Tiel retired from competitive kayaking in 2010 to pursue her undergraduate degree in journalism at Ryerson University in Toronto. Here she discovered a passion for photography and has since completed studies in photojournalism at Loyalist College.
Journalism has taken Tiel around the world, including the Netherlands, Denmark and the Yukon.
With her background in competitive sport, she enjoys covering athletic pursuits. But she is just as happy to spend time with a person, capturing their character in a portrait.
In 2018, Tiel embarked on the adventure of a lifetime: hiking from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail.
